USA Official Green Card Lottery
Each year 50,000 immigrant visas are made
available through US green card lottery to people who comes
from countries with low rates of immigration to the US. The
green card lottery visas are ONLY AVAILABLE for people who
come from countries that have sent less than 50,000 immigrants
to the US in the past five years. The green card lottery
is held by the State Department's National Visa Center.
Winners will be chosen randomly from every qualified entries.
Winners of the green card lottery will be given the opportunity
to apply for permanent residence in the US. If the winners'
permanent permanent residence is accepted, the individuals
will be authorized to live and work permanently in the US.
Their spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21
will also be allowed residency to the US.
Green card lottery applications are sorted by
geographic regions. The regions are divided as follows:
| Africa |
includes all countries on the African continent and adjacent
islands; |
| Asia |
extends from Israel to the northern pacific islands, and
includes Indonesia; |
| Europe |
extends from Greenland to Russia, and includes all countries
of the former USSR; |
| North America |
includes the Bahamas; |
| Oceania |
includes Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and
all countries and islands of the South Pacific; |
| South America/Central America/Caribbean |
extends from Central America (Guatemala) and the Caribbean
nations to Chile. |
Each region will be randomly selected by the Visa
Center. Applicants that do not comply with the current Green
Card Lottery guidelines will be rejected. Winner of the lottery
will be notified by mail.
